Ground Investigation Success at Cork Airport

JWB Civil Engineering Ltd. successfully carried out a comprehensive ground investigation for DAA International

\Inย 2024, JWB Civil Engineering carried out aย thorough ground investigationย atย Cork Airportย for DAA International. This work helped support the development of a new building by providing valuable insights into the soil conditions and identifying the best foundation solutions for the structure.

Our team closely collaborated withย Scantech, who carried out advanced geotechnical testing and surveying. Their expertise allowed us to gather important data, enabling us to design foundations that prioritised stability and safety.

We completed the project with precision and professionalism, demonstrating our ability to deliverย customised ground investigationย solutions for complex developments.

JWB machinery on site, installing Helical piles and ischebeck were utilised in order to achieve long-term stability.

Soil Nailing for Amgen, Dublin

JWB machinery on site, installing Helical piles and ischebeck were utilised in order to achieve long-term stability.

Atย JWB Civil Engineering, we recently completed aย large piling projectย forย Amgen, one of the worldโ€™s largest biotechnology companies. This project took place at theirย Amgen Dรบn Laoghaire (ADL)ย facility. ADL required a solution for anย instability problemย in theย wall/embankmentย surrounding the premises. After assessing the site, we determined thatย foundation reinforcement services, includingย Ischebeck piles, would offer the best long-term solution for stability.

Why Foundation Reinforcement Was Needed

The embankment around the ADL premises had experienced significant movement. This raised concerns over the safety and stability of the surrounding structures.ย Foundation reinforcementย strengthens existing foundations to support the load and withstand pressure. In this project, we usedย soil nailing,ย piling, and other reinforcement techniques to stabilize the structure. Specifically,ย Ischebeck pilesย were chosen for their strength and durability, ideal forย embankment stabilization.

Our Approach: Piling and Foundation Reinforcement

To restore stability, we employed Ischebeck piling techniques. These piles provide exceptional support for foundations. By strategically placing them, we reinforced the embankment and prevented further movement.

As part of our foundation reinforcement services, we also conducted thorough ground investigations. This ensured the soil was suitable for piling. It was an essential step for ensuring the long-term stability of the structure. We worked closely with Amgen to provide the most efficient solution for the site.

Completed Project

Theย Amgen Dรบn Laoghaireย project was completed inย February 2024. Our teamโ€™s expertise inย foundation reinforcement servicesย allowed us to resolve the instability issue. As a result, the embankment and surrounding structures are now safe and secure.

Mini Piling / Ischebeck bars in Bishopstown, Cork

JWB Mini Piling / Ischebeck bars project completed in December 2023 for a private residence in Bishopstown, Cork to fix subsidence issue.

Project Overview

In December 2023,ย JWB Civil Engineeringย delivered a tailored stability solution for a private residence inย Bishopstown, Cork. The property was showing clear signs ofย subsidence, including visible wall cracks and uneven floors. As a result,ย our team carried out a full site inspection and structural assessment.ย We decided thatย Mini Piling using Ischebeck bars would offer the best repair option.

Why We Used Mini Piling

Mini Piling strengthens foundations in weak ground conditions or where access is tight. Unlike traditional piling, it works well in confined areas and causes minimal disruption.ย Ischebeck barsย provide high load capacity and long-lasting durability. Consequently, this combination offers a strong and reliable solution for foundation repairs.

How We Completed the Work

We worked in challenging site conditions; however, we maintained precision at every stage. Our engineers installed each pile to exact specifications and checked the alignment throughout the process. As a result, the foundation became stronger, further movement stopped, and the structure gained long-term stability.

Spotting the Signs of Subsidence

We repair many subsidence and instability issues across Ireland every year. For example, common warning signs include wall cracks, sticking doors, and sloping floors. If you spot these issues, act quickly. Our engineers can inspect your property, find the cause, and design aย Mini Pilingย plan that fits your needs.

JWB Soil Nailing Solution for Christian Brothers School Cork, summer 2023

Ground Stabilisation in Cork โ€“ Christian Brotherโ€™s College Project

JWB Soil Nailing Solution for Christian Brothers School Cork, summer 2023

Project Overview

In August 2023,ย JWB Civil Engineeringย completed a significantย ground stabilisationย project forย Christian Brotherโ€™s College, Cork. The site featured a large embankment that required reinforcement to ensure long-term safety and stability. The design for the works came fromย DL Consultant Engineers, Ballincollig.

Choosing the Right Stabilisation Method

After careful site assessment, our team selectedย soil nailingย as the most effective solution. This technique involves inserting steel bars (nails) into the soil at regular intervals. The nails are then grouted into place, creating a reinforced mass that resists movement. This method is especially effective for steep slopes and retaining structures where traditional retaining walls may not be practical.

Benefits of Soil Nailing

Soil nailing offers several advantages:

  • Minimal excavation required, reducing disruption
  • Strong, long-lasting slope stability
  • Cost-effective compared to alternative retaining systems
  • Adaptable to a wide range of soil and rock conditions

In this case, the process strengthened the embankment without altering the appearance of the surrounding landscape. As a result, the school grounds remain safe for students and staff while maintaining their natural look.
